His Excellency Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, recently launched the new afforestation project located in Diyar Al Muharraq. This initiative is in line with the national strategy to increase the number of trees by 2035 and the Kingdom’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2060.
Minister Al Mubarak said, “There are currently a number of initiatives and policies set in place to increase afforestation in the Kingdom and motivate all entities to participate in government afforestation projects in collaboration with the private sector as well as involving individuals in the afforestation process.” He noted that the new afforestation project in Diyar Al Muharraq is set to be one of the most important private sector initiatives.
His Excellency confirmed that the tree species to be planted for various initiatives have been decided. Large evergreen trees were selected due to their suitability to the Kingdom’s climate conditions and their low water consumption. He also commended Diyar Al Muharraq’s cooperation with the Ministry in the implementation of afforestation initiatives.
