Diyar Al Muharraq Evaluates the Feasibility of 3D Printing Technology in Real Estate Development

Diyar Al Muharraq, Bahrain’s largest real estate developer, has signed a partnership agreement with China National Electric Engineering Company (CNEEC) to evaluate the feasibility of adopting 3D printing technology in the construction and development of real estate projects. This initiative aims to assess the efficiency, effectiveness, and compatibility of this technology with Bahrain’s real estate market.

Through this step, Diyar Al Muharraq seeks to evaluate the sustainability of this innovative technology as a viable solution to enhance the construction quality of its projects, while reducing costs, time, and material waste. This aligns with Diyar’s commitment to providing affordable and sustainable green buildings. As part of the study, CNEEC will construct a residential unit using 3D printing technology under the supervision of Diyar’s engineering team in 2025 to evaluate the efficiency.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the project site, in the presence of a delegation of senior representatives from both parties. The delegation was led by H.E. Ni Ruchi, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Bahrain; Mr. Li Baoan, Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Bahrain; and Mr. Ge Jian, Vice President of CNEEC, alongside other officials. On Diyar Al Muharraq’s end, the event was attended by Mr. Abdulhakeem Yaqoob AlKhayyat, Chairman of Diyar Al Muharraq; Eng. Ahmed Ali AlAmmadi, CEO of Diyar Al Muharraq; members of senior management; key engineers of the project; and other representatives.

His Excellency Ni Ruchi, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Bahrain, emphasized the ongoing urban development in the Kingdom of Bahrain, stating: “We would like to commend Diyar Al Muharraq’s strategic directives to elevate its building and construction standards, in addition to promoting the local real estate sector. This vital initiative holds great importance as it aims to strengthen ties between both countries. With a focus on highlighting the construction and infrastructure sectors, this key collaboration seeks to provide mutual support between both nations, reflecting the continuous development of bilateral relations.”

Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Ge Jian, Vice President at CNEEC, stated: “We are pleased to partner with Diyar Al Muharraq to execute a model home using 3D printing technology as a trial to assess its effectiveness and potential adoption in future projects. With the continuous advancement of this technology, the future of construction and architectural design looks brighter, offering limitless opportunities for innovation, efficiency, and sustainability. We believe this technology will become a fundamental cornerstone of urban development in the future.”

On this occasion, Mr. Abdulhakeem Yaqoob AlKhayyat, Chairman of Diyar Al Muharraq, said: “We are delighted to collaborate with the esteemed CNEEC, a globally renowned organization that has successfully delivered thousands of diverse projects worldwide. Through this partnership, we aim to study the feasibility and suitability of this technology for the local market and its alignment with the demand for projects using this innovative approach. This step reflects our commitment to integrating modern technologies to enhance Bahrain's real estate sector. We are confident that the initial assessment of this collaboration will enable us to adopt sustainable construction practices that reduce our carbon footprint. With our firm belief in the transformative potential of innovative technology, we hope this trial will be a successful one, paving the way for broader applications across our projects.”

Established in 1979, CNEEC specializes in general contracting and project management across sectors such as energy, environmental protection, residential and commercial real estate, mining, and infrastructure. It has consistently been ranked among the top 225 international contractors by Engineering News-Record, a renowned publication for global engineering and construction projects.
