Diyar Al Muharraq, the largest real estate development company in the Kingdom of Bahrain, recently participated in the fifth instalment of the Bahrain Smart Cities Summit, emerging as a platinum sponsor. In light of the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, this year’s Summit commenced on the 7th of April virtually under the theme of ‘Redefining Smart Cities’, and will comprise of a series of talks throughout the year leading up to their annual event, scheduled to be held on 10th and 11th of October 2021 in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The Bahrain Smart Cities Summit aims to ultimately provide a platform for discourse to develop sustainable solutions collaboratively. The active participation of Diyar Al Muharraq comes as part of its commitment to further drive corporate environmental responsibility within the Kingdom’s real estate industry, encouraging more sustainable practices through knowledge sharing in the industry via active discussions between leading industry players. The first panel discussion of the 2021 Summit, which outlined the importance of sustainable urban development, was moderated by Waleed Khalaf, who steered the active discussion between the panelists, Eng. Ahmed Alammadi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Diyar Al Muharraq, Naomi Hoogervorst, Management Officer of the UN Habitat Program, and Mohamed Ali AlKhozaaee, Vice President of Bahrain Society of Engineers.
The points of discussion highlighted the importance of a holistic approach to sustainable development when building cities, or even smaller scale development projects. The panellists concurred that consideration must be made for environmental, economic, as well as social impact in projects no matter their scale. Furthermore, the importance of initiating discourse with governing bodies for the betterment of the development sector as a whole was of great importance, leading by example wherever possible, for a more sustainable future.
